  • A lot of people haven’t looked at stay at home parenting as a real option and I didn’t either until I got the book, A Way to Stay Home – You Can Afford Stay at Home Parenting. I think there is a denial in our culture of the reality of how difficult it is to raise a family and work full time. Somebody has to take care of the family and the home. What’s the point of having children if you hand them off to another person to raise and only get the most difficult time of the day to spend with them? Then on weekends, there’s so much to do, it’s just more stress.

I found that since I had given up a career/paycheck and traded it in for SAHM status, I had horrible feelings of worthlessness and isolation due to “not working” outside the home. I found that my self-esteem took a huge hit as I’d worked full-time since I was 17 and now, to have to depend on my husband….how terrifying!!   • “This book gives great ideas that can be adapted immediately for anyone, even if they aren’t a SAHM, that wants to save money and also have a healthier parenting/lifestyle for the family.  Since I am into nutrition, I liked that Anne listed common foods and then gave great ideas on how to make a variety of things with each of them.  Love the list…so many times I run out of ideas. Plus, she also shared health benefits and examples of need for balance of macronutrients in your diet. One of my favorite parts that I looked forward to in the chapters were your 'Lessons Learned'. Many of them made me laugh. The Pedro the parakeet story was hilarious."
